The Scandal of Gendercide - War on Baby Girls

Today, I came across an article that I just had to share. It was about female gendercide in Asian countries which is especially prevalent in China and Northern India. Due to population regulatory restrictions, many families are hoping for a male over a female when a woman becomes pregnant. They would even go as far to have abortions or kill the baby as soon as she is born if they find out it is a girl. Here's an excerpt that really shocked me:
Chinese writer Xinran Xue, present for the birth, then hears a man's voice respond to the sight of the newborn baby girl. "Useless thing," he cried in disappointment. The witness then heard a plop in the slops pail. "To my absolute horror, I saw a tiny foot poking out of the pail. The midwife must have dropped that tiny baby alive into the slops pail!"  When she tried to intervene she was restrained by police. An older woman simply explained to her, "Doing a baby girl is not a big thing around here."
These societies are convinced that sex-selection abortions are rational. But there is mass murder being committed here. I am even more distraught by this gendercide because I am a firm believer in the equality of the sexes. Even if the girls are born, many are neglected to death, left to die in staircases or deserted alleys. There is an expansive opinion that females are considered an economic drain. But today, women are increasingly gaining power and respect worldwide. Although we may not have equal preference just yet, I know someday we will. We must unite and stand up against this injustice. These millions of unborn or murdered baby girls have a right to live. A gender preference stands in their way to a life on Earth. And that is unfair, REALLY unfair. To read the full article, here is the link. I really hope that this article has moved you in some way. Whether it be shock or compassion, emotional movement is the first step to doing something.
